Erik Schmidt has more than 20 years of Human Resources experience. He was recently SVP Human Resources International of NBC Universal. Based in London, and as the HR Leader for all international operations outside US since 2008, Erik led HR strategy and initiatives unifying organizational efforts supporting the business goal of driving revenues to $4+ billion. He was the team leader of centralized Reward, Talent and Expat specialists as well as six client-facing HR Directors. He was accountable for HR internationally as the business transitioned from GE ownership to that of Comcast, impacting 2,500 employees in 35 countries.Previously, Erik was the Country HR Leader for GE Healthcare following the acquisition of Amersham plc. This cross-business role was responsible for integrating 3,500 employees based in four manufacturing plants, six sales organizations and the new global HQ. Erik’s role had a significant M&A focus as GE Healthcare was highly acquisitive during his tenure.
Erik spent 13 years previously as an HR leader in the fast-moving consumer goods sector. He was the Regional HR Leader for NE Europe at LEGO during the global turnaround of this famous brand. He was recognised for his early successes when he became HR leader for Europe before ultimately gaining responsibility for Asia. Earlier Erik worked as a divisional HR leader in large parts of the global spirit supply chain, at the time of the Guinness/GrandMet merger which formed Diageo plc. When brewing company Scottish & Newcastle was radically re-shaping from leisure and into retail and brand acquisition, Erik worked as the HR leader for their International HQ.
Erik started his career with experiences at Ford, Oracle and Siemens after sparking his HR interests at Edinburgh University where his studies led to a Bachelor of Commerce Degree specialising in business and occupational psychology.
